How to Configure Address Redaction Settings
Admin => This article provides an overview of the facility-level controls for hiding recipients' postal details on tasks.
Facility settings let you control whether the postal address of a Patient or Next of Kin recipient is hidden on a task.
Redaction is set at facility level rather than as a per-user or per-task choice, so behaviour stays consistent across your organisation.
Look up what users see once these settings are active here ➡️ How to Use Address Redaction on Tasks.
Available settings
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Redact Patient Address on Tasks | Hides the Patient's address in the Primary and Cc recipient areas of a task. The Patient's name still displays. |
| Redact Next of Kin Address on Tasks | Hides the Next of Kin's address in the Primary and Cc recipient areas of a task. The Next of Kin's name still displays. |
| Disable Free Text Recipient Entry | Removes the Add Free Text Recipient button from the recipient management screen, so recipients must be added from the address book or using the discrete name and address fields instead. This also applies to the equivalent option in Scribe Web, so behaviour is consistent across both. |
| Always Redact Address on Manual Recipients | Locks the Redact address toggle to on for any recipient added using the discrete fields, so a user can't turn off redaction for a manually entered address. |
| Always Print Cover Page for Redacted Recipients | Automatically adds a cover page for any recipient whose address has been redacted, so the letter can still be posted to them. |
Adding a setting
These settings have to be done by an admin in V2.
- Go to the facility Settings screen.
- Select General.

Scroll further down to Advanced Settings.
Click Add Setting.
[THE ABOVE SCREENSHOT NEEDS TO BE UPDATED PLEASE, SHOWING THE NEW SETTING it was not in rocks at the time of this draft. Many thanks] - Search for the setting by name (for example, "Redact Patient Address on Tasks").
- Select it, and set it to active or inactive.
- Click Add.
=> the setting is added to your facility's settings list with the value you chose.
Things to know
- The Patient and Next of Kin settings can be turned on independently of each other - for example, redacting only the Next of Kin's address while leaving the Patient's visible.
- Always Print Cover Page for Redacted Recipients works alongside the existing template setting Print CC with cover page. If both are on for the same recipient, only one cover page is added - no duplicates are produced.
- Redaction doesn't affect the cover page itself: the full address is always available there for posting, regardless of which redaction settings are active.
