Dragon Professional - Outlook and Word add-in not working
Potential workarounds to try:
Reboot the pc, then try the following steps if this has not resolved. Not all changes may be required. Registry entry changes as a last resort.
-
Re-enabling the Add-in
- Open Outlook and click File, then select Options.
- Go to Add-ins and look at the bottom for Manage: Disabled Items, then click Go.
- Select the NatSpeak add-in if listed there and choose Enable.
- Go back to the main Add-ins menu, change Manage to COM Add-ins, click Go, and check the box next to the Dragon add-in.
- Select Do not monitor the add-in for the next 30 days if Outlook lists it under slow/monitored add-ins.
- Clearing Error Logs
- Close both Dragon and Outlook completely.
- Open Windows File Explorer and navigate to
C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Roaming\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking15\results(or your specific version folder).- Delete all the files inside the results folder to clear corrupted tracking data that triggers crashes.
- Restart your computer, launch Dragon first, and then open Outlook.
- Change Outlook's Slow Add-ins PolicyOutlook tracks add-in performance and will automatically disable the NatSpeak module if it takes longer than 1 second to load.
- Open Outlook and click File.
- Look at the info page for a large button labeled Slow and Disabled COM Add-ins.
- Click it, locate the Dragon NatSpeak add-in, and select Always enable this add-in.
-
Manually Re-register the Dragon v16 DLL File. If the add-in continues to disappear, the link between Dragon v16 and Outlook may be corrupted. You can force Windows to re-register it via the command prompt:
- Close Outlook and Dragon.
- Press Windows Key + X and select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Paste the following exact command for Dragon v16 and press Enter:
regsvr32 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking16\Program\dgnoutlook.dll"- Click OK when the success dialog box appears, then restart your PC.
-
Fix the Windows Registry (Permanent Fix)Modifying the registry forces Outlook to always load the Dragon add-in regardless of startup speed.
