1 - Offline Mode in Scribe Mobile: Overview

=> This article explains what Offline Mode is, why it exists, and the three ways a consultation can be affected by connectivity.

Offline Mode lets a clinician keep recording consultations in Scribe Mobile when the device has an unstable or no internet connection.

  • It is a mobile-only feature

Consultations recorded offline are stored securely and encrypted on the device until they can be uploaded, and they are not visible on web or desktop until the upload has completed.

Here, we look at how Offline Mode behaves, so we can explain it accurately to customers.

NOTE: It should not be shared with customers as-is, and any screenshots used in customer communication must come from a live or production environment rather than from internal documentation.

Why Offline Mode exists
The guiding principle behind Offline Mode is continuity: a lost connection should never stop a clinician from continuing their day, and it should never cause a recording to be lost. Scribe Mobile is designed to keep the recording experience as similar as possible whether the device is online or offline, so the clinician does not need to manage connectivity manually.

There are three connectivity scenarios:
  • Online to online: the clinician starts and finishes a consultation while connected. This is the existing, unchanged experience.
Offline Mode covers the below:
  • Offline to offline: the clinician opens the app while already offline, records the consultation, finishes it, and selects the documents to be generated. The consultation is saved locally and uploads once a connection is available.
  • Online to offline, and back: the clinician starts the consultation while connected but loses the connection during recording. Recording continues without interruption, and any audio that could not be uploaded is retained locally until the device reconnects.
How Offline Mode is positioned to customers

Offline Mode should be presented as continuity and resilience for mobile consultations, not as a separate mode the clinician has to switch on or manage. The key message for customers is that the clinician can keep consulting even when connectivity is poor or unavailable, and that once the device reconnects, T-Pro securely handles the upload and document generation without further action from the clinician. Once a consultation has uploaded and been processed, it behaves exactly like any other consultation recorded online, with no visible label showing that it was originally recorded offline.
